If you are a frequent Internet-surfer, you have definitely noticed that the lion’s share of your time is wasted on visiting useless sites, going back to the same pages on end, scanning annoying ads, etc. And it has nothing to do with you planning your work inefficiently. The real reason is in the very chaotic and random nature of the Internet.
It seems that we have all humbly acknowledged advertising as part and parcel of the global net. Besides, it is a means of making money, and for some – a powerful promotion tool. But one thing is undoubtedly evident – once we get into the Net, we all fall a prey to its aggressive pressure. Our attention is constantly distracted from useful information to advertising, and we inadvertently jump to the advertiser’s page. Quite often ads lead astray from the main point, and before you know it – you are lost in the endless chain of browsing completely useless resources.
The most commonly used and, apparently, the most effective modern advertising tricks in the Web are banners and pop-up ads, that is ads that are being downloaded without our knowledge and most often against our will. It is next to impossible to make one look at the ad otherwise, isn’t it?
A special class of programs is designed to solve these problems - Ad blockers, that will become the subject of our review. |
